it’s too bad they shoot the messenger…

it’s too bad they shoot the messenger…

i’ve got so much to share

i wonder if anything’s different this time around ..

i wonder if there’s someone out there who would say they’d want to put me down …

it’s too bad for them the truth being seen is inevitable

many say i care too much, i wonder if they realize it’s all a part of us now

guns are the weapons of the foolish

the wisest will tell you that the words hold the true power

and anyone who believes otherwise

see the definition of the word justice and how it’s used

in a thousand different ways to manipulate an occupied mind

it’s too bad they’ve always shot the messenger

i plan on making it through this time, to my delivery

barely born I was a child of Liberty from day one

#30YearsOfWarinAfghanistan – And We’re Still There

#30YearsOfWarinAfghanistan

I started using this tag on twitter a few weeks ago. For as long as I’ve known about Afghanistan I’ve had an interest in it. Obviously being a lifelong New Yorker the events of 9/11 made it a topic. I was 16 when The first War started(before Iraq). #sidenote I think many forget that there are in fact TWO wars going on, THREE if you count the equally as death producing drug war. Tora Bora. Osama’s in the caves with a dialysis machine and his trusty doctor. Dead or Alive. The Hindu kush mountain ranges. Northwest Pakistan. Taliban and ancient civilizations where any who wish to take refuge must be sheltered. Places no mechanized vehicles have operated on. The tapes, the fuzzy bootleg video recordings. Some say Osama is a fake totally fabricated by some conspiracy master plan. Some say Osama is dead. Some say Osama is real and masterminded these terrible acts of violence. Some say Osama drives a cab in the city. My opinion? I don’t know, so I won’t say.

What I do know, and what I can say, is what I’ve read about the situation and the lives of the people there. The pictures i’ve seen. The stories i’ve read. The documentaries, the articles, the movies based on, and one book that may have been written (in my mind) specifically for me. And not just the people, the country, it’s animals, it’s history, it’s mountain ranges and natural habitats. Besides being important to me because we are currently at War with the country – besides that – I see an Afghanistan that is filled with remarkable natural life like Snow Leopards, mountain ranges, fields, kite controllers, weevers of incredible carpetry clothing and art. And I know that there have been talks and the president I voted for is considering sending 40,000 more of my peers, young American men & women into a place filled with a civilization of people who have endured foreign weapons and bloodshed for 30+ years.

I love New York City. That is unquestionable in my every thought and action. What happened on 9/11 has made me who I am more than anything in this world. By saying we should leave Afghanistan am I giving up on the vengeance of my city? Am I saying they died for nothing because we never found Osama? No. In the Godfather Pt. I after Sonny Corleone is killed the Don calls a meeting of all the families in the mafia and he says “I forgoe the vengeance of my son” because he realized that no one else needs to die. GIVE PEACE A CHANCE.

My grandmother revealed to me today that my father was talking about Afghanistan when he was my age. 30 years ago. And we’re still there.

Love My Life

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , on 19.11.2009 by thomas

I love where I live

I love BROOKLYN

I love every corner of the 5 boroughs like each is an intersection of worlds

I love my room, even though it’s not that big

I love that I have everything I need right here

I love everyone I see going on for whatever it is they’re fighting for

I love Long Island City because it’s in constant motion

I love movement and when it comes together it’s harmony

I love the sound sights, all senses and frequencies

I love living …. really, it’s quite nice

I love that I was given more than a second chance and I’m lucky to be able to write

I love that I feel free and I see an opportunity for others to be

I love unconditionally at any hour day or night

I love my life!

#Blackthoughts? #Whitethoughts? I just got thomas thoughts

Shoutout to Black Thought one of my favorite MC’s of the Roots crew.

It’s really not that rare and now not surprising to see racially inspired topics on twitter. I think twitter is designed or its design encourages people to simply and without worry of reprise say what they are thinking. I think it’s great. Expose what people are really feeling. Malcolm X had said he preferred the blatant southern bigots to the northern racists who would smile in your face only to scheme in some other way. From what I’m reading most of these tweets are from young kids who in my opinion really don’t know better. We as a growing generation (people 21+ right now) who grew up as the tools advanced and had a chance to get accustomed to them are better off than the kids who were born into this overloaded internet.

Twitter(among other social networks and generally the internet) gets it out of people. The thoughts. Thoughts define actions. We’re talking about thoughts before they turn into actions. Some people are calling trending topics ignorant and not participating and others are promoting them. I think the way to solve this is to talk about and not just yell at people and tell them they are wrong, to maybe show them what is wrong and let them see the meaning behind it. I think the opportunity for people to learn is great. Everyone has their own perspective and even if to you it’s not correct it’s valuable as a lesson and you have that chance and power to reach out and say something. Speak up and be heard.

11.16.09

Do you know where your children are? #NYC. AH I remember seeing that as a kid on Fox5 then watching X-files. I used to think I would get abducted. I always had trouble sleeping. Some of my earliest memories are of being up at night, I don’t know what it is. I’m awake. I was born that way. My last post it was 4:07AM and that was oh about 18 hours ago. I had planned to stay up but then fell asleep around 5:15 and woke up at 6. 45 minutes of sleep to start a Monday. I left my apartment at 6:30 and from Brooklyn off I was into Manhattan L to the 5 and I got off at 86 street still really in a daze not quite tired not quite awake not quite morning really unfeeling of day or night, just me being and I felt good.

First thing I saw – and this always helps – and is always a blessing because it’s always hard for me to get up early – the sunrise.

Morning

And of course I lucked out with the weather running on no sleep isn’t easy when it’s freezing cold or raining. It was nice. But I knew that the night before when I decided ‘it’s gonna be one of those nights’. 7 AM I reach my destination and the crew is all there and we do our thing, now I will explain more about shooting crew / rigging crew as pertains to film set in a more informative blog but I’ll say I am on the rigging crew and we are not necessarily tied to the camera while it is rolling. So today while I started with the shooting crew in the afternoon I was off to Queens via a crew van to prepare the stages for tomorrows shoot. (We the rigging crew are in first – last out – on-call) It was easy, and I got to go home relatively early. It all worked out for me. I even took at an hour nap at lunch. So now 10:25 PM I’ve been up from Sunday Noon-ish that makes 36 hours a awake with a couple of seperate hour naps and I’m good. I wonder how this will read to me tomorrow being not in the not quite debilitating but definitely felt feeling of sleep dimentia. It’s all good. I’m gonna get some rest I’m off tomorrow.

It’s 4:07 AM

11.16.09

My alarm should be set at 5:45 AM. I have a 7 AM call time at 81st street & 5 ave. The Irish Historical Society. It is very hard (read: impossible) for me to get to sleep early on a regular night and Sunday is even worse because in the weekend I get back into my normal sleeping schedule which is more into the night hours. I would say in the past 5 years my average amount of sleep on a sunday night for monday is 2-5 hours. I find every so often I won’t be able to sleep at all the night before and so I start my monday on a second wind. Starting a week like that usually gets you rough on tuesdays after a pass out on monday night. I guess my body has grown accustomed to this schedule. My anthem for my day is going to be none other than the Beastie Boys…
